Francis praises outgoing Police Chief

Praises have been heaped on outgoing Acting Police Commissioner, Errol Alexander, by Human Rights Activist, Mary Francis.

Francis, who has often criticized the police, told the Times she was taken aback and a little disappointed at news that Alexander has taken himself out of the race to become Saint Lucia’s next Police Chief.

“In my humble opinion served well during a trying time,” the Human Rights Activist asserted.

Francis added that she was concerned that Alexander would no longer be in the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF).

She declared that he had done a good job.

Francis expressed the hope that the person who succeeds Alexander would be the correct person.

“We don’t want a continuation of divisions and political interference which are not good for the morale of the force,” she told the Times.

The praises for Alexander came as he confirmed that he has decided not to reapply for the post of Police Commissioner, after his and other applications were rejected and the post re-advertised.

The outgoing Police Chief told reporters that he did not intend to stay in the force a minute after his retirement.

He said he did not know why the decision was made to have the post re-advertised.

However the decision came amid reports that a legal challenge had been mounted against the process by a senior Police Officer, as some sources claimed that the government was already paving the way for one of the candidates, former Police Inspector Vern Guard, to become the nation’s next top cop.
