Opposition leader predicts UWP election victory

The leader of the parliamentary opposition, Doctor Gale Rigobert, has predicted an opposition win at the upcoming general elections.

Rigobert described a political meeting of the opposition United Workers Party (UWP) on Wednesday night as the beginning of a series leading up to the victory of the party at the polls.

“No other party in Saint Lucia has the interest of men women and children of this country at heart,” she told party faithful.

Rigobert told the crowd that the next poll will be “telling” and “critical” because the people have suffered for four years.

She said that Saint Lucians were hoping that the ruling labour party would have corrected the error of its ways, after having previously served for nine years in government.

However Rigobert lamented that the people have come to learn that there is no repentance in the labour party.

The Micoud North MP made reference to Prime Minister Doctor Kenny Anthony’s New Year’s address to the nation this week as being empty.

“It was lacking inspiration and hope and failed to do what the people were hoping to hear at the start of the year coming from a PM who promised so much on the campaign trail and yet again he came up empty handed,” Rigobert said.

She noted a number of issues that Anthony failed to address, including why people are still “trapped” in the makeshift arrangement at the George Odlum National Stadium which currently serves as a hospital.

“He failed to explain why his cabinet member responsible for health has for two or three previous occasions misled the people and the residents of the South into believing that it would have been their last January in that hospital,” Rigobert told the crowd.

In addition, the opposition leader said that Anthony had failed to indicate when Saint Lucians would move into the new national hospital.

Rigobert also accused the Prime Minister of failing to outline plans to stimulate the economy to generate hope in the youth that they could become employed and giving hope to parents struggling to feed and send their children to school, by revising the policy that lifted subsidies on sugar, rice and flour.

“He failed to give hope to a nation desperate for hope,” Rigobert asserted.

She urged supporters of the UWP not to hesitate when the next elections are called.

“Go out there and say to SLP it is time for you to get out,” the Micoud North MP said.
