Robert Lewis bows out of elective politics

Castries South MP, Doctor Robert Lewis this evening confirmed that he was bowing out of elective politics.

Lewis, who is currently Saint Lucia’s Education Minister, gave the confirmation during the MBC Television Programme, Current Affairs, with Host, Clinton Reynolds.

Speculation has been rife that the Castries South MP would be bowing out after serving two terms and that Ernest Hilaire would be seeking to retain the seat for the ruling Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP), in the next elections.

Lewis recalled that when he entered elective politics he had promised to reassess matters after two terms.

“I have enjoyed it tremendously,” the Education Minister said, adding that in his opinion, he had served his constituents.

He observed that clearly, not everyone in the constituency supports him.

However Lewis asserted that politics or religion will not keep him away from his friends.

“I am not running away from politics; I enjoyed political life and I hope that many young people will come out to serve their country,” he declared.
