Police praised for response to alleged assault


The Babonneau Police have been praised for their response to an alleged assault on a female by a Police Constable.

Chairperson of the Babonneau Constituency Council, Virginia Albert Poyotte, has expressed satisfaction with the way the case was dealt with.

In her opinion, the people of Babonneau were very upset about the incident.

Poyotte explained to members of the media today that the people of the community have embraced the officers at the Babonneau Police station and have been working with them in community policing.

She said that as a result, there was a need for justice to be served so that a level of respect can be maintained for people of the community.

Poyotte asserted that now the case is in the hands of the law, the hope is that the female affected will get justice and the protection of her rights.

Special Police Constable,Troy Philomon of Bagatelle, Castries, was recently suspended from duties after being charged on January 8, 2016 with two counts of assault.

The charges stemmed from the alleged assault of Ruth Edmund of Paix Bouche, Babonneau on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 about 8:33 a.m. at the Babonneau Police Station.

He was granted bail in the sum of EC$750 on each count.

The matter has been set for February 4, 2016 in the First District Court.
