Claudius Francis elected new SLP chairman

President of the Upper House and television talk show host Claudius Francis has been elected to serve as the new chairman of the Saint Lucia labour Party (SLP).

Francis replaces retired chairman of the SLP Sir Julian Hunte, who served in that role for a number of years.

The decision was made at the SLP closed delegates conference held on Sunday.

General Secretary Leo Clarke has said that the new chairman serve to address concerns about the party’s untimely response to criticisms facing the SLP administration.

“I am sure there are cases where we are guilty of not speaking out enough,” he said.

The general secretary admits that the SLP may have slipped a few times by not responding, but noted that there are other times when it wasn’t the party’s place to respond, rather the government.

It was also revealed that coming out of the SLP delegates’ conference, members voted in favour of Dr. Kenny Anthony retaining the leadership position. Only eight no confidence votes were cast against him.
