Thirty-five Police officers convicted in 2015

Thirty-five police officers were convicted in 2015 on disciplinary charges, Acting Police Commissioner, Errol Alexander has disclosed.

Alexander made the disclosure to a news conference yesterday.

He revealed that a total of eighty-six matters were heard, including conspiracy, stealing, being absent without leave and incurring debt and not paying up.

The Acting Police Chief said twenty-seven matters were withdrawn and twenty-four were dismissed.

He told the news conference that six officers had been arrested and suspended.

According to Alexander, it was important to make the information public so that citizens can understand what is taking place in the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF), to deal with misconduct.

It was revealed that under the Police Act, provision is made for measures including fines or a reduction in pay or rank or dismissal, depending on the Police Commissioner’s acceptance of the recommendation or decision to vary it.

The news conference was also told that matters involving assault and other matters under the criminal code, are dealt with criminally.
