RSLPF reports decline in homicides

A record decline in homicides/murders last year has been reported by the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF).

According to the latest RSLPF statistics, the year 2015 saw the lowest figures on record since 2007.

A total of twenty-eight 28 murders were recorded islandwide for 2015.

This compares to thirty-two each for 2013 and thirty for 2014 .

“Murders were concentrated primary in the Castries district and were committed predominantly by young males against other young males using firearms and sharp objects,” the RSLPF reported.

According to the Police, in the first quarter of 2015, the Island recorded zero murders.

However, for the last three quarters of 2015, there were reported cases almost every month.

In terms of distribution of incidents per month, April realized a significant spike in murders, where seven incidents were recorded – the highest over the twelve month period.

July and September also recorded an alarming number of murder incidents, with each month recording four cases, the Police said in a statement.
